Rather than take the time to develop new characters or plots to go with the new title, a publisher simply took pages from a previous comic book and pasted the new title on the cover. Once the publisher was granted a copyright, the pasted-up prototype was often thrown in the ashcan, a metal container used to dispose of ashes from the stove or fireplace and commonly found in many households and businesses of that era.

The concept of the ashcan was given a more modern meaning in 1984 when one comic book creator produced a limited number of black and white prototype comics for his friends and staff.

In more recent times, several publishers have released small runs of ashcans in a variety of sizes and colors as promotional items for the full-production versions.

Source: How a Comic Book is made

NEXUS 100: SPACE OPERA ACT 2 OF 4
by Mike Baron and Steve Rude

What's all the fuss about in the long awaited, oversized edition of Nexus 100? Sounds like a job for his alter ego…Superman! After years of standing idle, the young man from Krypton defies the wishes of his fathers to come out to the world as the first superhero of the Space Age. As each decade passes and each new danger emerges, he wonders if this is the one that will kill him and everyone he loves. Superman realizes that even good intentions are not without their backlash as the world around him transforms into a place as determined to destroy itself as he is to save it. Uniting the critically acclaimed writer Mark Russell (One-Star Squadron, The Flintstones) and Eisner-winner Mike Allred (Silver Surfer, Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams) for the first time, this series promises fans an unforgettable journey through U.S. history and culture starring our beloved characters.

the Coming of Gourmando Graphic Novel

Nexus Newspaper Strips V1: COMPLETE COLLECTION

Something long dormant beneath the surface of Ylum comes alive, triggering a visit from the planet-devouring Gourmando and his mysterious ally. With powers far beyond those of even Nexus himself, this unstoppable being banishes Nexus to an unknown realm--and the only way out is to face ones worst fears!

Multiple Eisner Award-winning team Mike Baron and Steve Rude deliver a new Nexus adventure in this special collection!

* ''The greatest superhero comic of all time.'' -Newsarama

Creators

Writer: Mike Baron

Artist: Steve Rude

Colorist: Steven Legge

Cover Artist: Steve Rude

Genre: Superhero, Science-Fiction

Publication Date: Dec 2023

Format: FC, 144 pages; Paperback

Size: 9" x 12"

Retail Price: $29.99

Age range: 14

RDO-SCS4

NEXUS THUNEWORLD COLLECTOR'S EDITION COMPLETE SET 1-5

Writer: Steve Rude

Penciler: Steve Rude

Inker: Steve Rude

Letterer: Steve Rude

Original Publication Date: December 2021

Format: Black &
