I ordered a pen an ink commission, hand colored, of one of my favorite superhero characters, Captain America. The only request I made was "Captain America in an action pose." What I got was a stunning piece of art that was miles above my expectations. And my expectations were incredibly high! Steve Rude, one of my all-time favorite artists and one of the finest artists ever, supplied a beautiful portrait of Cap that will be professionally framed and hung on my wall in a place of honor forever. Thank you, Steve, it was worth every penny!
Great is an understatement for this piece re-created by Steve! Amazing, amazing, amazing...I love it!!
Just received my commission from the Dude. A very solid piece, with dynamic action and a cool vintage style. I was a bit disappointed to not see the Thing’s face in the drawing.
Awesome Big Barda commission which is exactly as I had envisioned and requested. I’m really surprised at how quickly I received too. Thanks much for a great piece of artwork!
I'm very excited. First, his sheer mastery of form and anatomy, his legendary naturalism, means he doesn't have to delineate every sinew of musculature. The contour, the shape, the BALANCE, says it all. Yes, I wouldn't have minded a few more highlights of muscle, the same way he used light on the gloves, but the essence is intact, distilled, complete. His following the light is consistent throughout the figure, and the character IS wearing protective clothing.
And he can fashion METAL from strokes of INK! And the DETAIL! It's like he's been drawing the character for years. I know my design is somewhat generic (universal? haha), simple, but functional and classic. And Steve has breathed mystical energy (enormous talent, skill, & expertise) into it, elevating it to perhaps it's ultimate interpretation.
He makes it look effortless, but obviously, if it were easy, he'd be one of many. But he isn't. He's the singular Dude. I'm really happy. Honestly, and I mean no offense whatsoever, but he sometimes pays homage to his own heroes in his work, adopting some of their flavor into his own. But I love it when Steve Rude draws like Steve Rude, way more than when he draws "like" another artist, no matter how great those others are, in their own right.
And I feel THAT is what I was so lucky to GET, STEVE RU
