HUGE fan of "The Dude" here! This is a really GREAT resource for ALL artist of ANY skill level. My compliments to "The Dude" for assembling such an Amazing "How to" manual for artistic weaklings like me to enjoy and learn from.
Don't forget to tune into Steve's weekly Youtube stream on Saturdays and please consider joining his Patreon. Steve is really accessible and graciously shares his artistic talents, techniques & experiences with other fledgling & professional artists alike. He really is a massively talented resource if you're even slightly interested in learning this stuff! The Dude IS LEGENDARY!!! LONG LIVE THE DUDE!
As mentioned in a previous review for the "Coming of Gourmando" Graphic Novel, my wife squirreled my copy away for Christmas soon after it arrived. I did get to glance over it just long enough to drool over the exquisit artwork and awesome looking story, but only enough to know that I will be enjoying this immensely once the wrapping paper has been cleared away. I've been a huge fan of everything Steve Rude does and have followed Nexus from the very beginning, back when I was still a college student so many decades ago! So glad to be able to help keep these wonderful stories alive by supporting Kickstarters. Steve's storytelling abilities are so incredible - layout, story, artwork & writing - that I know I'm in for another treat! Please keep these epics coming! Thanks!
What can I say; I’m a sucker for grab bags…
I received a great mix of comics, cards, stickers, other miscellaneous swag (some signed). Great deal and great product as always.
The Draw Nexus (2006): How to Tips and Techniques Download has been a great help for me in pre production work. I've been using it especially in how to draw construction mannequins and use it as a guide on how to make model sheets. I definitely recommend it.
Steve Rude is that rare artist that can produce beautiful work and show you the tools to create your own. If you're looking for trendy "tips and tricks" you won't find then here. What this great book does offer is a treasure trove of fundamentals that are the foundation of any serious student's work. This book couldn't be any better even if it were written on stone tablets and cast down from Mt.Sinai.
As an art educator in the animation industry, it's rare to find a publication that covers areas that are important to what we do on the production side of things. Steve Rude's "How-to Draw the Animated Nexus" is an exception in that much of what is missing in other material is covered in his book.
For example, not enough attention is paid to character rotations in other how-to books dealing with character design. Rotations are a very important aspect of the design process when preparing for production. They define the look of the character and are used by storyboard artists and animators as a reference for how to draw and stage the character. Rotations are the foundational aspect of character model sheets in animation.
Steve Rude's book is full of character rotations. It's an excellent reference source for artists. In fact, most of the book is fashioned as a pre-production model package and complemented with lessons in the basics of action / adventure character design with various illustrations, vehicle designs, scene layouts, action poses, and is a marvelous showcase for the work of an extraordinary talent.
It's a spiral bound book which makes it handy for placing it flat on your drawing table and would be a fine addition to the collection of animation and comic art connoisseurs.
I would highly recommend "How-to Draw the Animated Nexus" as a must have for all up and coming animation and comic artists as well as art students and professionals in general who are looking to learn something new or just gaining valuable and inspirational content to keep their chops up as well as those who appreciate the distinctive quality of the author's great skills and beautiful work.

I recently acquired my third unique original artwork from Steve Rude. The Marilyn Monroe piece first caught my eye several months earlier, and I was grateful to be able to circle back and purchase for my personal collection. As with previous orders, all are packaged securely and shipped quickly. Highest recommendation for his studio assistant(s). Be well and enjoy life!
These sketchbooks are so eye-opening, it’s as if I am getting the privilege to sit next to a master at work and observe his process.
This was way more than I expected! Beautiful work with premium printing and packaging! Even the yellow tissue packing paper is cool. The calendar, autographed print card, the trade paperback and the hard cover edition and all the little personal touches are awesome! It has been years since I tried reading comics again on a regular basis. And so far, what I have read, is far more than entertainment. It’s loaded with instruction to hone my own work as well! I was onboard for the original First Comics Nexus back in the day. Sadly those all got sold when I sold off my large comics collection. Those are some I wish I had back. I’m really enjoying getting back in the groove! Thanks, Steve, Janelle and Lynn. Great going!
Received my print and sketchbook and couldn’t be happier. Will to continue to support such an amazing artist
I recently completed my second purchase of Steve Rude artistic greatness! The items were safely packaged and as requested, the additional item was "signed"! I absolutely love the Wonder Woman print and the sketchbook was a bonus joy! Thanks once again! Be well and enjoy life!
This drawing may look simple but it is the direct result of artist Steve Rude's experience at reducing the complex into basic forms and eliminating needless lines. This is a skill all of us should tirelessly practice. We are fortunate to have an artist of Steve Rude's caliber with us.
Beaufitul book of Steve Rude’s pencils, inks, and fully colored pages from the Nexus series! A must have for Steve Rude fans (I’ve never read Nexus and I still enjoy this book)!~ ^__^
Not only do you get some really great artwork; but you also get some glimpses into the process tha went into creating the pieces.
I didn’t realize that Steve Rude put out sketchbooks. Shame on me. Terrific art and insight to Steve thoughts.
I enjoyed contributing to the crowdfunding that validates and propels Steve's projects. For me, my bundle contained items that got me further in touch with the wild galaxy of characters in the very entertaining Nexus comic book, signed by Steve. Before this I never owned a comic signed by one of the artists or writers. The collector in me tingles.I was drawn into the MYSTERY! Many thanks!
The art I bought is beautiful. The other items were a lot of fun, and it was all shipped quickly in a very secure package. Like the title says, I couldn't be happier! Thanks!
As every, a package from Steve and Jaynelle is an absolute delight. Even Santa Claus' deliveries aren't as much fun!
Beautiful artwork Love the colors and detail .Excellent communication and safe, fast shipping.Already deciding on my next piece .Trustworthy and fair seller.Highly recommend.
I have been a fan of Steve Rude's artwork since I first saw an issue of NEXUS at my local comic shop in the early 1980's. That being said, when I came across a Facebook announcement about his art for sale I jumped at the opportunity to add a piece to my personal original art collection. I couldn't decide among two awesome and unique pieces, so I purchased both (the other a tasteful nude). Hey, life is short! They were safely packaged and arrived within a few quick days. I appreciate the personalized invoice and the assorted "extras" included. I took the opportunity to watch a live stream last week and over the MLK holiday weekend looked through more archives and offerings. Safe travels to OAX and I will circle back to continue my shopping after upcoming Richmond GalaxyCon. Be well and enjoy life! Steve W. (Woodbridge, VA).
I came to the Dude's work originally through Badger. I loved the crossovers and this is a fantastic piece. Cheers!
Very nice sketchbook. There was a sale. I would not ordinarily get the sketchbook for that amount. I'll wait for the other ones.
There was a sale, it was worth it, beautiful artwork. I'll wait for the other sales to come to get the other sketch books.
